We are the residents and owners of the homes in Green Close, Springfield, Chelmsford. Our youngest residents are at primary school and the oldest is over 100. (By the way, don’t get confused when trying to find us. There is another road of the same name in Writtle, on the other side of Chelmsford.)
Green Close has been a private road ever since it was first constructed just before World War II. This means that the home owners have always had to club together to organise and pay for the upkeep of the road. We are fortunate that for nearly 80 years now there have been people in the road prepared to step forward and take the lead on behalf of us all.
In 2007 we made things easier for ourselves by forming Green Close Residents Association Limited. The company is now legal owner of the road in Green Close and the home owners own the shares. We may need to hold more formal AGMs now but we still manage to combine them with a party.
In fact we’re pretty good at finding excuses for parties. The photograph above shows some of the residents and their families at the street party we held to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. We’ve had parties to welcome new people to the Close, to say farewell to some who were moving on and to celebrate significant birthdays. One of the great things about Green Close is that none of us is a stranger.
